Police officers were pictured carrying powerful semi-automatic rifles and Glock pistols while patrolling Horse Guards Parade in Whitehall, central London earlier today. It comes as security has been bolstered around tourist hotspots following the shooting of a ceremonial guard outside the Canadian parliament last month and after it emerged Westminster was also on high alert in case of a terrorist attack.
