Dubai Frame to be hung next year

Dubai Municipality's director-general, Eng. Hussain Nassir Lootah, visited the site of the Dubai Frame project in Zabeel Park to review the progress made with the $32.7m (AED: 120m) project.

Dubai Frame is a 150m-high, 100m-wide structure with a transparent frame that is being built to resemble a huge picture frame, through which landmarks representing modern Dubai like Emirates Towers and Burj Khalifa can be seen on one side, while on the other older parts of the city like Deira, Umm Harair and Karama can be viewed.

At the base of the frame will be a museum telling the story of the city's development.

The idea for the frame emerged from a worldwide architecture competition that began in 2008 and ran for 13 months. The frame concept by Dutch practice Donis emerged as the inner from more than 2967 submissions by designers from 106 countries.

The Municipality has said that work on the frame, which will be built on a 697m² site, will complete by the end of next year. It will include elevators that "will help visitors move through its facilities as if they are moving in the sky inside the glass frame," Lootah said.
