Dubai Frame project to be completed by end-2014

The Dubai Frame, a 150m tall window-frame like structure in the emirate’s Zabeel Park, will be completed by the end of next year, according to Dubai Municipality.

The AED120m ($32.3m) project, which won the ThyssenKrupp Elevator International Architecture Award in 2009, will feature a museum and is expected to attract up to 2m visitors per year.

According to officials, the Dubai Frame is intended to highlight both the old and news sides of the city, with newer icons such as the Burj Khalifa visible through one side, and older parts of the city such as Dubai Creek and Deira on view through the other.

The structure will be completely transparent, with elevators that will take visitors to a viewing deck located at its peak.

Separately, Dubai Municipality said in a statement on official news agency WAM that another seven major projects were on track for completion by the end of next year.

These include Dubai Safari, which will eventually replace the existing Dubai Zoo, as well as a bird and animal market, fish market, and Al Ayas Shopping Complex.

The total cost of all of these developments is expected to reach about AED883.5m.

The municipality said that other projects like the Holy Qur’an Park and Maritime Museum were still under their initial design stages.
