'We are here to declare the victory of Gaza': Fireworks replace the bomb as gun-toting Palestinian children celebrate 'long-term' truce

The bloody seven-week Gaza War, which killed more than 2,200 people, halted last night with Israel and Hamas agreeing to a long-term truce. Both sides were claiming victory under the Egypt-brokered deal, with bursts of celebratory gunfire erupting in the Gaza Strip and children holding guns aloft as crowds cheered in the streets. But with missiles still being fired and violence continuing right up until the ceasefire deadline - and even for a short while after - doubts persisted over whether the peace would hold. Pictured: Palestinian children hold guns aloft (top left), others flash the sign of victory (bottom left, top right and bottom right), and a Hamas militant brandishes his gun (centre) during the celebrations.
