Dubai Crown Prince opens GITEX 2016


Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum opened the 36th GITEX Technology Week (GITEX 2016), which is held at the Dubai World Trade Centre on Sunday.
Sheikh Hamdan toured the exhibition which is running for five days and stopped at the stand of the UAE telecommunications operator Etisalat to familiarize himself with its latest smart technologies offered to the citizens and residents of the UAE.
GITEX is hosting 600 exhibiting companies from 60 countries, gathering to showcase the latest technologies at the largest technology exchange and marketplace for the Middle East and Africa.
Sheikh Hamdan noted that the large number of international participants only reflects the status of the UAE as a gateway between East and the West. Further, His Highness pointed out that the large number of local participants also reflects a shift in thinking, innovation and performance which will empower the UAE's shift to smart government, enhance innovation in all sectors and help transform the UAE into the fastest growing and the happiest country in the world.
Accompanying Sheikh Hamdan were Deputy Ruler of Dubai Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Director General of the Dubai Health Authority Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Qatami, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police Major General Khamis Mattar Al Muzainah, Chairman of the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority Mohamad Ahmad Al-Qamzi, Director General of the Department of Tourism & Commerce Marketing (DTCM) and Dubai World Trade Centre Authority (DWTCA) Helal Saeed Almarri and a host of senior officials.
