Hyperloop team arrives in Dubai
Dubai: The Hyperloop team have arrived in Dubai, marking the first steps in building a high-speed transit system in the emirate.
The Los Angeles-based Hyperloop One are participating in an intensive 12-week programme as one of the leading contestants of The Dubai Future Accelerators.
Their project focusing on building a high-speed transit system consisting of “capsules” that can travel in a network of depressurised underwater vacuum tunnels, which allows them to travel at speeds as high as 1,200 km/h.
On the video sharing website YouTube, the Hyperloop team posted a one-minute video of the team all set to start their residency in Dubai.
The Dubai Future Accelerators program pairs top companies and cutting-edge entrepreneurs with government and corporate partners in Dubai to create breakthrough solutions on a city-wide, regional and global scale.
Accompanied with the video, the team also posted: “With a fully-functioning team on the ground in Dubai, Hyperloop One and its government entity partner, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), will work together to develop a potential Hyperloop network for Dubai.”
According to Gulf News reports, 30 companies will work with seven government authorities participating in Dubai Future Accelerators to find solutions for the challenges facing key economic and strategic sectors in 21st century cities in the UAE.
In a previous statement, Mohammad Bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister for Cabinet Affairs and the Future and vice-chairman and managing director of Dubai Future Foundation, said: “These [business accelerators programs] will now adhere to the government’s agenda and strategies, and serve as a catalyst to research and development within the most strategic sectors, such as education, health, infrastructure, transportation, and energy.
“They will provide a global platform to develop new and innovative solutions to the most pressing challenges facing society.”
