Turkey finally opened its border to allow hundreds of Kurdish fighters into Kobane today as the Syrian frontier town was pummeled in another round of U.S. airstrikes (bottom right). The intensified round of blasts filled the skies above Kobane with thick, black smoke as warplanes flew overhead and tracer rounds could be seen firing on a target from the surrounding hills (top). Moments later an explosion hit the densely-packed area (bottom left). The U.S. also dropped weapons and medical supplies to the 'valiant' Kurds, raising questions over whether the move was timed to arm hundreds of new arrivals from Turkey.
