Dubai to get Taj Mahal replica by 2024
Dubai-based Link Global Group is planning to construct the $1 billion ‘Taj Arabia’ that will comprise a 300-room five-star hotel which will be a replica of the Taj Mahal, along with seven Mughal architecture-themed buildings consisting of retail and residential elements in FalconCity of Wonders, a senior executive told Emirates 24/7 .
“It was an ambitious target to complete the project by 2014,” admitted company director Arun Mehra. “The infrastructure is ready. We are in talks with leading construction companies.”
Mehra, who calls the project a one-shop wedding destination, said the project will have wedding boutiques, a gold jewellery souk and a banquet hall to accommodate 3,000 people, while the promenade will have eateries, bars and lifestyle outlets.
“We have been working on the project for a couple of years. We have done our research and we are certain the project will be successful. Taj Arabia will be three times bigger than the original Taj. It will be a wedding destination.”
With over 2.3 million square feet of built-up area, the project will have acres of greenery including Mughal gardens and a ‘falling garden’ with a water cascade.
Taj Arabia will have one million square feet of residential area with freehold apartments and penthouses .
“Taj is the heart of FalconCity of Wonders,” emphasises Mehra, adding, “We have had a great response from people coming to us during the Cityscape exhibition to buy full buildings.”
The developer is also open to selling retail outlets rather than just leasing them.
“We will not just be leasing the retail components, companies will be able to buy them,” he said.
Mehra says the company has funds in place to start construction. “We have private investors who are backing us,” he said.
FalconCity is a multipurpose mega project located in Dubailand and will feature structures based on famous sites and architectural marvels of the world such as the Pyramids, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Eiffel Tower and the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
