Dubai set to launch dinosaur theme park
Dubai has announced plans for a dinosaur theme park, the latest entertainment attraction to be announced in the emirate in the last twelve months.
Developers Ilyas & Mustafa Galadari Group (IMG Group) claim The Lost Valley will be the first of its kind in the theme park industry and will include animatronic dinosaurs and rollercoaster rides.
Spread over 270,000 square feet, the new park is the third to be announced in the 1.5m sq ft IMG Theme Park. The first two zones will be designed around Marvel Comic and Cartoon Network characters, while the fourth and fifth zones will be announced in due course.
The project will be located in the City of Arabia in Dubailand, adjacent to Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road.
The largest temperature controlled indoor entertainment destination in the world, it is estimated it will attract up to 20,000 visitors per day when it opens.
“The project is our brainchild and we will ensure that the visitors get to witness life-like dinosaurs and experience the same thrill levels as if they were ever to see the dinosaurs for real themselves,” a representative of the IMG Group said.
The park will represent dinosaurs from different ages, rollercoasters with names such as ‘The Velociraptor Launch Coaster’ and themed retail and hospitality outlets.
IMG Theme Park is one of a number of new theme parks planned in Dubai. Master developers Meraas Holding, which is owned by Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is planning another five zone theme park located near Jebel Ali.
Dubai Adventure Studios, which was originally announced in 2011, will anchor the new expanded development, which is set to be completed in 2014 and will include popular Hollywood brands and a range of rides and attractions.
Sheikh Mohammed last year also launched plans to build a new multi-billion dollar project called Mohammed Bin Rashid City, which will be built by Dubai Holding and Emaar Properties and will include a Universal Studios theme park.
