He was left red-faced after he was photographed throwing up on the side of a busy Los Angeles freeway earlier this month.

And Harry Styles has finally opened up about the cringe-worthy incident during an interview with Scott Mills on BBC Radio 1, claiming it was due to extreme physical exhaustion caused by going on a long hike earlier in the day.

The One Direction hunk brushed off claims it was his late night boozing that had left him feeling queasy, begging his driver to pull over on the hard shoulder of the 101 freeway in Calabasas.

He insisted: 'I'd been on a hike. I'd been on a very long hike. It was about three weeks ago, so I'm fine now.'

After the 20-year-old stud spilled his guts on the roadside it didn't take long for crazed fans to erect a shrine in honour of their pop idol's puddle of sick.

The curly-haired singer was alarmed that someone bottled up the vomit and sold it online in order to make a profit.

'It’s worrying, this is the world we live in', Harry sighed.

1D star Liam Payne admitted he had seen the sick for sale on eBay, adding: 'Woah, I saw that thing [the eBay listing], it's weird.'

Ed Sheeran rallied to support his friend in the wake of the incident, saying that law-abiding citizen Harry - who is one year under the legal drinking age in the US - normally shuns alcohol altogether when he's Stateside.

It isn't the first time the Steal My Girl singer has thrown up in public.

The One Direction heartthrob also vomited on stage in Pittsburgh in July last year, although he claimed he had simply eaten too much prior to the show.
