Plans unveiled for new Macy’s store in Abu Dhabi

The UAE will be getting the world’s first Macy’s department store outside the US, and just for good measure, its second Bloomingdale’s too.

Property developer Gulf Related and Dubai-based retail conglomerate Al Tayer Group said yesterday that they plan to open both stores in a new shopping centre being built in Abu Dhabi.

The stores will be located in The Galleria on Al Maryah Island, which is due to open in Spring 2018.

Financial details were not disclosed.

Dubai already has the first overseas branch of Blooming­dale’s which opened in 2010.
